Carrabba’s Italian Grill

As I started writing this post I suddenly realized how far behind I am in these posts! You see February is a big birthday month and to celebrate my brother turning 31 we went to Carrabba’s Italian Grill. I was curious since I’ve had a couple good comments about it and I wanted to see how much of it was true. We started off the evening with a Sangria. I wouldn’t say that it was something that would compel me to rush back but it was a decent enough accompaniment to our meal.

We started out with two appetizers, the first one was the fried calamari. Lightly breaded with marinara sauce, I was just able to get this picture before it got snapped up. The calamari was surprisingly tender, which shows that time and care was put into proper preparation, which is something that you don’t see every day.

We also had the shrimp scampi, practically submerged in an absolutely decadent garlic butter sauce, just as it should be. The smell was so intoxicating that you may notice someone was swiping one of the shrimps as I took the picture.

Most entrees come with either a soup or a salad and, as some of you may already know, I skip salad whenever feasible. So I went with this lentil soup, a nice hearty dish that warms you from the inside out. It was a little bland but not too bad.

The rest of e family went with the salad option. The salad was quite a bit better than the soup, it was fresh and well balanced. I have trouble believing that I would actually say this but the salad is a much better choice than the soup.

The celebrated man of the day decided to go with the pork chop special. There was a special pork chop and pasta combo that caught his eye. The portions are huge, the sauce was a little strong but overall it’s a big meal made to satiate big appetites.

Being a huge seafood junkie I went with the Linguine Pescatore. The pasta was al dente, the sauce well balanced and the amount of seafood was completely satisfying.

As if that weren’t enough seafood, we also got a side of breaded scallops with a lemon pepper sauce. They were beautifully seared, buttery and the lemon sauce brought a balance that tied it all together.

My wife ordered a pasta Weesie, an oddly named dish. It has shrimp, mushrooms and scallions and we requested that some scallops be added since they are her favorite.

My brother also asked for a cheese pizza for the table. I admit that it was a bit much, we were absolutely stuffed by the time we were done. I admit that it was quite an excess laid in the rationale that it was a special occasion.

Carrabba’s did prove to be a good choice, the service was quick and agreeable, our dishes were very well timed and we thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
